The Sultanate of Oman took part in the opening session of the first regular meeting of the UNICEF Executive Board for 2026, which runs until February 13.
In Oman’s statement. Ambassador Omar Said Omar Alkathiri, Oman’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, expressed appreciation for the confidence shown by member states in electing Oman as Vice President of the UNICEF Executive Board, representing the Asia Pacific Group for 2026. He affirmed Oman’s readiness to work closely with the Board’s presidency and all members in a spirit of partnership and consensus to enhance the Board’s effectiveness and to support UNICEF’s leadership role.
The statement reviewed Oman’s efforts to align its national policies and plans with the Sustainable Development Goals and Oman Vision 2040, particularly in early childhood development, inclusive education, preventive healthcare and social protection.
It noted the marking of 55 years of strategic partnership between Oman and UNICEF, renewed through the 2026–2030 country programme based on a life cycle approach, support for the inclusion of children with disabilities, development of data and knowledge systems, and the implementation of digital campaigns and dialogue sessions with children.
The statement also reaffirmed Oman’s continued support for UNICEF’s efforts in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and in regions affected by conflict and humanitarian crises. It highlighted the need to protect children, to ensure unhindered humanitarian access, and to respect international humanitarian law.
Ambassador Al Kathiri reaffirmed Oman’s firm commitment to supporting UNICEF’s mission and to working with all partners for a safer, more just and more dignified future for children around the world.
