The Sultanate of Oman has affirmed its condemnation of all attacks targeting the Islamic Republic of Iran, the territories of the Gulf Cooperation Council states and Arab countries.
In a statement to the United Nations in Geneva, Oman called on all concerned parties to exercise restraint, halt hostilities, adhere to the principles of international law and avoid targeting civilians, vital facilities and critical infrastructure.
Oman’s statement was delivered by Idris Alkhanjari, Oman’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and International Organisations in Geneva, before the 61st session of the Human Rights Council during the joint interactive dialogue on the reports of the Special Rapporteur and the Fact Finding Mission on Iran.
In the statement Oman called for intensified regional and international efforts to halt the war, return to the negotiating table and adopt diplomatic solutions as the most effective path to address the root causes of crises and enhance security and stability.
Oman stated that increasing regional and international efforts to stop the war would help create appropriate conditions to promote and protect human rights at all levels, whether in Iran or across the region and the wider world.
Ambassador Alkhanjari added that the region is witnessing worrying developments due to the escalation of military actions and the exchange of attacks. He warned of serious repercussions that could affect the sovereignty of states, their security and the stability of their peoples. He noted that this also has a negative impact on human rights conditions and the protection of civilians.
