At the invitation of João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Sultan of Oman, accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising ministers and senior officials of the Omani Government, paid a State Visit to Angola on September 17 and 18, 2026.
The visit took place within the framework of the shared desire of the two Heads of State and the two peoples to strengthen the bonds of friendship and fraternity, as well as to deepen cooperation between the two countries in a wide range of fields, on the basis of reciprocity, mutual advantage and mutual benefit.
His Majesty was received at the Presidential Palace by President Lourenço. The Heads of State held a private meeting, followed by talks between the two delegations. These meetings took place in a cordial and fraternal atmosphere, reflecting their desire for enhanced cooperation grounded in the complementarity of the two countries’ economies and the promotion of the well-being of the peoples of Angola and the Sultanate of Oman.
His Majesty took the opportunity to congratulate the Angolan Head of State on the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Angola on November 11, 2025, and to welcome the celebration of the 24th anniversary of the attainment of peace in Angola, an important milestone for the country that brought the long civil war to an end and laid the foundations for national reconciliation and political stability.
For his part, President Lourenço congratulated His Majesty on the celebration of Omani National Day, which will take place on November 20 of this year.
The Heads of State exchanged views on bilateral, regional and international issues, noting a convergence of views in their approaches to various matters of common interest.
The Heads of State reiterated the need to deepen cooperation and agreed to explore new areas of cooperation and to work towards implementing the actions and projects to be developed in strategic sectors of common interest, particularly diplomacy, petroleum, energy, mineral resources, finance and the promotion of investments, tourism, agriculture, transport, logistics and housing. The Heads of State witnessed the signing of ten Legal Instruments of Cooperation and three Memoranda of Understanding between Public Companies.
The Heads of State agreed to hold periodic bilateral political consultations to assess the implementation of the commitments undertaken. In this regard, they agreed that the next session of political consultations, as well as the first session of the Bilateral Commission, would take place in Muscat, the capital of Oman, on a date to be agreed through diplomatic channels.
With regard to regional and global issues, the Heads of State expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflicts in Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe and called for an immediate ceasefire and urged the parties involved in those conflicts to engage in peaceful dialogue aimed at achieving lasting solutions.
Regarding the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, President Lourenço expressed solidarity with the affected countries, called for a return to normality and commended the efforts undertaken by Oman to de-escalate tensions and pursue dialogue for the peaceful resolution of the conflict.
With regard to the State of Palestine, the Heads of State expressed their support for the principle of peaceful coexistence, the right of peoples to self-determination and the resolutions of the United Nations, while condemning human rights violations and indiscriminate attacks against the civilian population.
With regard to the international agenda, the Heads of State acknowledged the primacy of international law, sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of nations.
The Heads of State likewise expressed their satisfaction with the quality of the negotiations and the results of the visit, which represents a historic milestone in strengthening the partnership between the Republic of Angola and the Sultanate of Oman.
At the conclusion of his State Visit, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Sultan of Oman, expressed his profound gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality extended to him by João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola, and by the Angolan people.
