Minister participates in Extraordinary Ministerial meeting of GCC

Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi participated in the 47th Extraordinary Ministerial meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

The meeting took place on May 6, 2025, and was chaired from Kuwait by Abdullah Ali Al Yahya, Minister for Foreign Affairs for Kuwait. It was attended by the GCC Foreign Ministers and the Secretary General of the Council.

Ambassador Sheikh Ahmed bin Hashel Al-Maskari, Head of the Foreign Ministry's GCC Department, was also present, along with several Foreign Ministry officials.

The meeting issued a joint statement calling on Iraq to respect Kuwait’s sovereignty and to complete the delimitation of maritime boundaries beyond Marker 162 in accordance with UN resolutions and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The statement rejected any infringement on Kuwait’s sovereignty or claims by other parties to the Durra field. The statement affirmed that ownership of the field’s resources belongs exclusively to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
