The Sultanate of Oman participated in a high-level meeting of the Group of Friends of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), held at the United Nations headquarters in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting discussed the key achievements of the UNAOC and its future priorities, as well as its efforts to promote dialogue and understanding among cultures and religions.

It also reviewed the Alliance’s initiatives in preventive diplomacy and its efforts to strengthen its role in countering hate speech and intolerance, thus contributing to the promotion of coexistence and peace.

The meeting also discussed the Alliance’s work beyond 2026 and how to strengthen multilateral cooperation and support national, regional and international initiatives aligned with its objectives and mandate.

The event was attended by Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed Alqutbi, Head of the Foreign Ministry’s International Organisations Department, and First Secretary Dr Maysa bint Khamis Alshibli, part of Oman’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
