The Sultanate of Oman participated in a high-level meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response.

The meeting was held in New York under the theme “Advancing a Multilateral and Intergenerational Approach to Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response, Guided by Equity and Solidarity”.

Ambassador Dr Adnan bin Hamad Alazri, Oman’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations for Maritime Affairs, delivered Oman’s statement, noting that pandemic prevention, preparedness and response are a shared responsibility requiring sustained political commitment and effective international cooperation.

Oman’s statement highlighted the importance of strengthening implementation of the International Health Regulations, developing national capacities in surveillance, early response, laboratory services and health emergency management.

It also spoke of the need to ensure sustained investment in health systems, human resources, scientific research and innovation.

Oman highlighted the importance of regional and international cooperation, the exchange of information and expertise, and stronger early-warning networks.

Oman reaffirmed its readiness to continue working with the World Health Organization and international partners to build a more equitable, flexible and resilient global health system.
