The Sultanate of Oman participated in a joint ministerial meeting of the League of Arab States and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Jerusalem, held in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Oman was represented at the meeting by Khalid Albabkhi, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations in New York.

The meeting discussed developments in Jerusalem and ways to strengthen joint Arab and Islamic action to protect its legal and historical status, safeguard its Islamic and Christian holy sites, and to counter Israeli measures aimed at changing the city’s character and identity.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of continuing international political and diplomatic efforts to support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and preserve prospects for achieving a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
