Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, Foreign Minister, held a number of bilateral meetings alongside Oman’s participation at the Munich Security Conference in Germany on February 13 and 14.
During the meetings, the participants exchanged views and consulted on a range of current issues and developments. They also discussed ways to support efforts to achieve security and peace through dialogue, legal frameworks and diplomacy, as well as respect for the sovereignty of states and the rights set out in international law.
These consultations focused on key current issues including the Iranian-American negotiations on the nuclear issue, the situation in Gaza and the Palestinian cause, the conflict in Ukraine, the crisis in Yemen and Sudan, developments related to Lebanon and Syria, maritime navigation matters and the need to ensure the safety and security of international commercial supply chains. They also addressed economic, climate and humanitarian challenges, as well as the need to advance efforts to achieve the necessary reforms of international organisations and the Security Council in a way that ensures fair representation of the voices and concerns of countries and geographical groups, particularly from the Global South.
The Minister held meetings with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar; Dr Fuad Hussein, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Republic of Iraq; Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Minister of Foreign Affairs for Kuwait; Paulo Rangel, Minister of State and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Portugal; David van Weel, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands; Johann Wadephul, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany; Andrii Sybiha, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine; and Dr Erywan Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam.
The talks also followed up on existing bilateral relations and cooperation programmes with Oman.
The meetings were attended by the Foreign Minister, Maithaa Saif Majid Almahrouqi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Federal Republic of Germany, and the delegation accompanying the Minister from the Foreign Ministry.
