The Sultanate of Oman reaffirmed its commitment to international efforts to combat racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance, while safeguarding human dignity and promoting the values of equality and mutual respect.

Oman made the statement during its participation in a high-level meeting commemorating the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, held at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Oman highlighted the importance of translating international principles and commitments into tangible benefits for peoples and communities.

Oman’s delegation was headed by Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed Alqutbi, Head of the Foreign Ministry’s International Organisations Department.

Oman highlighted its longstanding approach based on dialogue, understanding and coexistence, reflected in a number of national and international initiatives, including the “Message of Peace”, “Human Fraternity” and the “Muscat Action Plan”, launched at the United Nations headquarters in June this year.

The Muscat Action Plan aims to strengthen the role of traditional and indigenous leaders in countering hate speech and incitement, preventing genocide and atrocity crimes, and contributing to mediation and building peace.

Oman highlighted the importance of strengthening international cooperation, linking global commitments with action at the local level, drawing on knowledge and expertise rooted in communities, and enhancing youth participation.

Oman reaffirmed its determination to continue working with the United Nations and the international community towards a world in which human dignity is safeguarded, diversity is respected and differences become opportunities for understanding, cooperation and peacebuilding.
