Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi participated in a ministerial meeting in support of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). The meeting was held in New York and jointly hosted by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Kingdom of Spain and the Federative Republic of Brazil.

United Nations Secretary General António Guterres also participated in the meeting, held during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting formed part of international efforts to support the Agency, to enable it to fulfil its UN mandate, to strengthen its capacity to meet the needs of Palestinian refugees and continue providing essential services.

Participants highlighted the importance of concerted international efforts to provide the political and financial support needed to sustain UNRWA’s education, health and relief programmes. This support will help meet the needs of Palestinian refugees, alleviate their suffering and preserve their human dignity.

They affirmed that preserving UNRWA’s humanitarian and development role is a shared international responsibility until a just solution to the Palestinian refugee issue is reached in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions.
