The Sultanate of Oman joins the world in marking the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, observed annually on July 30.

This day underscores the importance of strengthening international efforts to combat and prevent this transnational crime, to protect its victims, and to uphold human rights.

Sheikh Khalifa Alharthy, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Political Affairs and Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, told the Oman News Agency that the World Day represents an opportunity to renew our collective commitment to preserving human dignity and protecting individuals from all forms of exploitation and coercion.

He emphasised that human trafficking is not merely a violation of the law, but a direct assault on human rights and freedom.

He added that Oman addresses human trafficking through an integrated national approach based on prevention, protection, prosecution, and institutional partnership, placing the rights and safety of victims at the core of its response.

He said that the enactment of the Anti-Human Trafficking Law, through Royal Decree No. 78/2025, has reinforced this approach, enabling the country to keep pace with the evolving methods of this crime and to expand the scope of protection afforded to victims.

He noted that this year’s theme, “Trapped in the Fraud Trap,” highlights a rapidly emerging pattern of human trafficking: luring individuals with false job offers, subsequently subjecting them to exploitation, and coercing them into committing online fraud.

This development necessitates closer international cooperation, the regular exchange of information and expertise, and cross-border judicial and security coordination, he added.

He said that Oman continues to work with its regional and international partners to prevent this crime, to protect victims of human trafficking, and to hold perpetrators accountable, thereby upholding human dignity and strengthening the rule of law.

Brigadier Jamal bin Habib Al-Quraishi, Director General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigation at the Royal Oman Police, told the Oman News Agency that marking the World Day aims to raise public awareness of the dangers of human trafficking and its impact on individuals and society.

It also seeks to highlight prevention methods, reporting mechanisms for suspected cases, and victim protection, while bolstering the efforts of law enforcement agencies and international cooperation to combat this crime.

He emphasised that combating human trafficking is both a national and a humanitarian responsibility, requiring the concerted efforts of government bodies, citizens, and residents alike.

He said that the incidence of human trafficking in Oman remains limited and low, with all forms of exploitation met with firm legal action, prioritising victim protection and support. Acts of human trafficking are treated as serious crimes that violate human dignity and rights, he said, adding that the Royal Oman Police — in cooperation with the Public Prosecution and relevant government agencies— is working to monitor, combat, and curb the various forms human trafficking.
