His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, presiding over a meeting of the Council of Ministers, directed that an additional seat be allocated to women in each Governorate, bringing the total to 11 seats. These seats will be added to the general seats open for competition, continuing His Majesty’s commitment to strengthening the principle of Shura, and building on the progress witnessed by the Shura Council in recent years. The measure aims to enhance the effective participation of Omani women across various fields.
In a post on X social media platform, Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi said:
“We are proud of the progress and empowerment achieved by Omani women, thanks to the vision of the wise leadership. Women in the Sultanate of Oman have gained a new entitlement through the allocation of 11 permanent and elected seats in the Shura Council, representing an advanced level of representation by global standards. This further consolidates the concept of women as essential partners in national development.”
