The Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Thailand signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop energy cooperation between the two countries, expand opportunities for partnership and joint investment, exchange expertise, knowledge and technologies and to support the development of the energy sector.

The MoU was signed on behalf of the Government of Oman by Engineer Salim Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, and on behalf the Government of Thailand by Akanat Promphan, Minister of Energy.

The MoU builds on relations and the two countries’ shared interest in developing energy cooperation based on mutual interests. It aims to strengthen economic ties and create broader opportunities for cooperation between institutions and companies.

Areas of cooperation include encouraging investment, strengthening bilateral consultations and the regular exchange of policies, best practices, technologies, information and data. It also covers training, skills development, knowledge transfer and the operation and development of joint projects in the energy sector.

The MoU also establishes the “Oman-Thailand Energy Policy Dialogue”, bringing together representatives from both countries with the possibility of private-sector participation. The dialogue will serve as an institutional platform to identify joint projects, develop a long-term programme for cooperation and engagement and determine the support required for their successful implementation.

The MoU also supports the exchange of training programmes, expert visits and cooperation in scientific research, contributing to skills development and the exchange of knowledge and expertise across the energy sector.
