Oman and Sri Lanka explore economic zone partnerships

Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, met with Harsha Amarasekera, Chairman of Port City Colombo, the Special Economic Zone in the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. They discussed opportunities for economic and investment cooperation in special economic zones, free zones and industrial cities.

The two countries explored prospects for partnership in a number of promising sectors, particularly real estate and commercial development, in a way that supports economic growth and strengthens investment flows.

They reviewed successful experiences in developing and managing special economic zones and exchanged views on best practices in this field, in a way that enhances the efficiency of economic zone management and raises their competitiveness.

They also discussed mechanisms to enhance the business environment and to attract high quality investments, as well as opportunities to benefit from the expertise of small and medium-sized enterprises in Sri Lanka. They also addressed efforts to transfer and exchange best practice and expertise, to support innovation and enhances the contribution of this vital sector to economic development.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of continuing joint cooperation and exchanging knowledge to contribute  to sustainable economic development.
