Bilateral relations

It is more than 220 years since Great Britain and Oman signed a treaty in 1800, agreeing that “the friendship of the two states may remain unshook till the end of time, and till the sun and moon have finished their revolving career”.

An extensive relationship of cooperation and friendship has flourished between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom ever since.

Oman has long worked with the United Kingdom to advocate peace and stability throughout the world.

The UK and Oman recently signed a sovereign investment partnership, the second of its kind in the Middle East.

Before that, in 2019, they signed a comprehensive agreement that demonstrates the two countries' shared commitment to working together in several sectors.

They also signed an historic Joint Defence Agreement signifying Britain's commitment to security.

The UK/Oman Comprehensive Agreement on enduring friendship is a firm demonstration of the two countries commitment to take their centuries-old relationship into a new era of cooperation.

Working through people-to-people links, this commitment covers sharing expertise and experience in the fields of education and culture. Many Omanis choose to study in the United Kingdom.

The aim is to benefit present and future generations, through prosperity, growth and shared values.
