His Majesty confers Oman Civil Order on UN Secretary General

His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik conferred the Oman Civil Order (First Class) upon António Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) during an audience at Al Barakah Palace.

The honour was bestowed in recognition of the Secretary General's distinguished diplomatic and political role, as well as his sustained efforts in supporting conflict resolution and advancing international peace and security.

The UN Secretary General expressed his sincere appreciation for the honour. He also valued Oman’s constructive and wise diplomatic efforts in backing dialogue and mediation, as well as its contribution to conflict resolution regionally and internationally with a spirit of responsibility and cooperation.

He underscored the importance of the continued partnership with Oman to serve stability and peace internationally.

The meeting was attended by Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, Foreign Minister; Dr Hamad  Al Aufi, Head of the Private Office; Hussain Abdullatif, Adviser at the Private Office; Gilles Michaud UN Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security; and Hans Grundberg, the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Yemen.
