Musandam, Oman
Motivated by his passion for olfactory excellence, Hassan launched “Musandam Store” in 2018, manufacturing perfumes and incense from his home in the village of Kumzar. His fragrances feature in Musandam’s shops and exhibitions.
The Kumzari people are an important part of Omani society whose culture is influenced by centuries of sailors, explorers, and merchants making port on the coast of the Strait of Hormuz. Alongside Arabic, Kumzari words have roots in Farsi, Baluchi, Portuguese, French, English, and now extinct languages of Yemen and the wider region. The prevailing theory is that the language was invented by travellers to communicate. Over the centuries, many of these travellers settled in Musandam.
