Omani designer Asfar Hamran Khamis, owner of the “Leetchi Dhofar” fashion house, participated in the 15th edition of Pasarela Larios Málaga Fashion Week in Spain, which brought together a number of designers and fashion brands from Spain and abroad.
The Omani fashion house’s participation was the first of its kind at the event, and the third by an Arab fashion house. It presented a collection inspired by traditional Omani clothing from Dhofar, featuring its distinctive colours, embroidery and decorative details, reinterpreted through a contemporary vision that preserves the character and identity of traditional dress.
The fashion week was held on Calle Marqués de Larios, one of Málaga’s most prominent streets, which was transformed into an open-air catwalk stretching around 300 metres and featuring a range of designers and creative talent from the fashion and design industry.
Asfar Hamran Khamis said her participation in Málaga Fashion Week marked an important milestone for the fashion house, expressing pride in representing Oman and showcasing aspects of Dhofari fashion to an international audience.
She added that presenting her “Al Ahd” collection represents both a responsibility and an opportunity: a responsibility to present Omani fashion in a way that reflects its distinctive character, and an opportunity to introduce an international audience to aspects of Oman’s heritage and culture and the diversity of its traditional clothing and decorative details.
She noted that participating as the first Omani fashion designer in the show provides further motivation to continue showcasing Omani fashion at international events and bring elements of Oman’s heritage from the local stage to wider audiences while preserving their distinctive identity.
The participation of the “Leetchi Dhofar” fashion house in Spain follows previous appearances in Moscow and Abu Dhabi, making Málaga its third appearance on an international platform.
Through these international appearances, the fashion house seeks to present contemporary designs inspired by traditional Omani clothing and showcase the distinctive colours, details and inherited decorative elements of Dhofari fashion, contributing to greater awareness of the cultural and aesthetic diversity of Oman.
