Minister meets UK counterpart in Manila

Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, met Ed Miliband, the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, in Manila on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting marking the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The meeting reviewed ways to further strengthen the longstanding strategic relationship between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom, and to build on the existing cooperation across areas of shared priority.

The two Ministers also discussed the ongoing conflict in the region and diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a cessation of hostilities and the resumption of negotiations.

They also exchanged views on coordination to restore the safety and freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law.

The meeting was attended by Nasser Almanwari, Oman’s Ambassador to the Republic of the Philippines, and officials from both countries.
