Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi received at the Ministry Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
The meeting discussed the current challenges facing maritime navigation in the region and through the Strait of Hormuz. It also discussed efforts to address these challenges through amicable and peaceful means in cooperation with all relevant parties.
Sayyid Badr highlighted the importance of adhering to international law and the law of the sea, alongside respect for the sovereignty of states over their territorial waters.
The Secretary General, expressed his appreciation for the IMO’s cooperation with Oman and his satisfaction with the consultations. He said he looked forward to continuing efforts, in cooperation with the relevant parties. to enable the safe implementation of the humanitarian initiative launched by the IMO concerning the passage of tankers currently stranded in the Gulf.
The meeting was attended by Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al Hinai, Ambassador at large, and various officials.
Commenting on the meeting on the X social media platform, Sayyid Badr described the discussions as “fruitful”.
“There is an urgent need to advance a humanitarian initiative to free ships in the Gulf, in safety and in cooperation with the littoral states,” he added.
