His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of the Republic of Kazakhstan attended a ceremony for the exchange of several documents at the Palace of Independence in the capital Astana. The two countries signed five agreements and ten memoranda of understanding (MoUs), in addition to a term sheet, a memorandum of cooperation, an executive agreement, and two cooperation agreements.
The agreements covered accession to membership of the Eurasian Development Bank, the establishment of a presence for the Bank in Oman, the promotion and mutual protection of investment, air transport, and the establishment of the Omani-Kazakh Business Council.
The MoUs covered cooperation in diplomatic studies and academic training, training, financial, cultural and youth cooperation, cooperation related to the investigation of accidents and incidents, strengthening connectivity between international corridors, communications and information technology, as well as cooperation in health, agriculture, livestock and fisheries.
The MoUs also included agreements between the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan, as well as between the Royal Academy of Management and Kazakhstan’s Public Service Centre.
The signing ceremony also included an implementation agreement to establish a joint investment fund; two cooperation agreements on investment opportunities in oil and gas exploration and production between OQ and the national company KazMunayGas; and a strategic cooperation agreement between O-Green and Samruk Energy to develop renewable energy projects in Kazakhstan and international markets.
Other agreements included a memorandum of cooperation to establish the Omani Kazakh Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Mineral Exploration, and a term sheet for the development of an entertainment city and the operation of a Rixos hotel at Blue City in Oman.
Signing on behalf of Oman were Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, Foreign Minister; Sultan bin Salim Al Habsi, Minister of Finance; Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi, President of Oman Investment Authority; Anwar bin Hilal Al Jabri, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion; Sheikh Dr Salah Jaaboub, Oman’s Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan; Faisal bin Abdullah Al Rowas, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Ashraf Al Maamari, Chairman of the Board of Directors of OQ Exploration and Production (OQEP); Mustafa Al Hinai, Chief Executive Officer of O-Green and Mattar Al Badi, Chief Executive Officer of Minerals Development Oman.
From Kazakhstan, the signatories were Mukhtar Tileuberdi, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Nurlan Sauranbayev, Minister of Transport; Nurlan Zhakupov, Chief Executive Officer of Samruk-Kazyna and a number of ministers and chief executives.
