Sayyid Shihab leads Oman's delegation to the Arab Summit in Baghdad

On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, led Oman's delegation to the 34th session of the Arab Summit, which began in the Iraqi capital Baghdad with the participation of heads of state and government leaders.

President Abdul Latif Rashid of the Republic of Iraq delivered a speech in which he stated that the spectre of war threatens security and stability in the region.

He noted that the Baghdad Summit is being held amid serious challenges that endanger the region, the security of countries, and the future of peoples.

He rejected the displacement of Gaza’s population under any circumstance or pretext, and said that joint Arab action is essential at this stage. He called for serious and responsible Arab efforts to save Gaza, activate the role of UNRWA, and ensure the delivery of aid to the Strip.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres, welcomed Oman's mediation in announcing a halt to attacks in the Red Sea, expressing hope for a political solution in Yemen. He also called for an end to the ongoing war in Gaza and rejected the forced displacement of the population in the Strip.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas stated in his speech that the killings and displacement carried out by the Israeli occupation forces are part of a plan to undermine the two-state solution. He called for the adoption of an Arab plan to achieve peace.

The delegation accompanying Sayyid Shihab, included Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi; Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, Abdullah Alsaidi;Minister of Economy Dr Said Alsaqri; Ambassador Abdullah Alrahbi, Oman's ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, and the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Iraq.
