Oman participates in emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Qatar
The Sultanate of Oman is taking part in the emergency Arab-Islamic Summit held in Doha, Qatar, to discuss the brutal Israeli attack that targeted senior Hamas leaders inside Qatari territory.
His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik received a phone call from António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, to hear His Majesty’s views on several regional developments. This reflects Oman’s pivotal role and its consistent approach in supporting every international effort aimed at achieving peace and stability. It also confirms Oman’s position as an active partner in strengthening international cooperation to address regional and global issues.
Oman’s participation in this summit reaffirms its active role and firm stance in rejecting any assault on the sovereignty of states. It also emphasises that Gulf and Arab security is indivisible and that any harm to it constitutes a direct threat to the stability of the entire region.
This participation reflects the strength of fraternal ties between Oman and Qatar, as well as Oman’s complete solidarity with Qatar. It demonstrates Oman’s consistent approach of standing by its brothers during times of crisis, and supporting collective efforts to protect Arab and Islamic national security in the face of attacks and violations that undermine the stability and sovereignty of some states. It also upholds the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, affirming that dialogue and diplomacy are the best paths to address tensions and achieve a just and lasting peace.
The summit, taking place under these exceptional circumstances, highlights the urgent need for unity and for shaping a unified and strong Arab and Islamic position that clearly expresses the will to defend shared interests and protect collective gains.
Abdullah bin Nasser bin Musalam Al Rahbi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Egypt and Oman's Representative to League of Arab States, told the Oman News Agency that holding the summit at this time comes at an extremely critical and dangerous moment. He stressed that this obliges Arab and Islamic countries to stand united in the face of threats targeting the region’s security and stability.
Ambassador Al Rahbi stated that the summit is taking place during a highly sensitive period, amid unprecedented military and political escalation. This escalation has reached its peak with the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the violation of Qatar’s sovereignty through hostile statements and actions that disregard all diplomatic norms. He warned that without a unified Arab and Islamic position, the entire region could be pushed into chaos, threatening both regional and international peace.
The Ambassador affirmed that under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Oman firmly believes in the need to respect state sovereignty and resolve disputes through peaceful means. Oman rejects any violation of the security of a fellow state, whether military, political, or through the media.
He added that the attack on Qatar is an attack on the entire Gulf and on everyone who believes in just peace. Such a challenge, he said, cannot be met with statements alone but requires joint Arab action and international pressure to stop these aggressive policies.
Ambassador Al Rahbi highlighted the vital role that both Qatar and Egypt play in mediating between Hamas and the occupying power. He stressed that Qatar, alongside Egypt, plays a crucial role in humanitarian and political mediation to secure a ceasefire, alleviate civilian suffering, and work towards solutions that restore security and stability.
He explained that these efforts, recognised by the international community, demonstrate a sincere Arab commitment to peace and justice. However, they have become the target of hostile campaigns by the occupation, which seeks to sabotage every rational and balanced initiative by casting doubt on the mediators’ intentions and undermining their credibility.
The Ambassador pointed out that recent events confirm that treachery and betrayal are deeply ingrained in the policies of the occupation. These actions do not only target a people living under occupation but also strike at the heart of collective Arab efforts for peace.
He noted that Oman, through the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, has shown principled and steadfast solidarity, most notably through His Majesty’s call with the Emir of Qatar. This position reflects Oman’s respect for the sovereignty of states and the sanctity of their territories, and its rejection of any interference or targeting against them.
On the Palestinian issue, Ambassador Al Rahbi stated that Oman affirms that a just and comprehensive peace cannot be achieved without ending the occupation, halting the aggression against the Palestinian people, and establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He added that it is unacceptable to tolerate double standards in the international community, which remains silent on organised state terrorism while condemning the resistance of a people who have been fighting for decades for their freedom. Today, Israel practises the most brutal forms of violence, using extremist ideologies to justify its occupation, while the defenceless party alone is held responsible — a stance that is unacceptable and condemned.
The Ambassador confirmed that Oman, through the Foreign Ministry, continues to work with its brothers and friends to find fair and lasting solutions that ensure the stability of the region and end the cycle of violence.
He stressed that Oman views this summit as an opportunity to build a unified Arab and Islamic position that rejects threats of force, condemns aggression, supports mediation efforts and humanitarian initiatives, and restores the credibility of international justice.
In conclusion, Ambassador Al Rahbi emphasised that joint Arab action today needs cohesion more than ever, along with reform of the internal system of the Arab League, and prioritising the supreme interests of the nation over any other considerations. Without this, he warned, the region risks being left open to extremism, domination, and chaos.
