Oman and Mexico celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations
During a ceremony held at the Foreign Ministry in Muscat, the Sultanate of Oman and the United Mexican States celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two friendly countries.
The celebration was marked by the unveiling of a commemorative logo symbolising the depth and strength of their ties.
Sheikh Khalifa Alharthy, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Political Affairs, praised the relations and cooperation between the two countries, noting that diplomatic relations were established on July 31, 1985. He said that this step had contributed to strengthening cooperation across various fields, including political, economic and cultural areas.
He expressed Oman's aspiration to further develop fruitful relations with Mexico, affirming the shared values between the two countries and their mutual commitment to building a partnership based on respect and understanding.
Anibal Gomez-Toledo, Ambassador of Mexico to Oman, praised the distinguished relations between the two countries, affirming his Government’s keenness to enhance all aspects that would develop these relations to broader and deeper levels.
He also praised the diplomatic efforts of the Sultanate of Oman in addressing numerous regional and international issues, and its steadfast commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.
He highlighted Oman’s role in building bridges between conflicting parties based on dialogue, tolerance and mutual respect, affirming that the Sultanate is a model to be emulated in mediation and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
He expressed deep appreciation, gratitude and thanks on behalf of the Government and people of Mexico to the Government of the Sultanate of Oman for its noble humanitarian efforts in securing the release of the crew members of the Galaxy Leader ship, especially the Mexican nationals, and ensuring their safe return to their families.
He stressed that the celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations is a distinguished opportunity to define new and ambitious goals that will enhance cooperation.
These include boosting trade, encouraging tourism, promoting academic exchange through university scholarships, and engaging in joint scientific research initiatives.
In a joint statement, the Sultanate of Oman and the United Mexican States praised five decades of fruitful and friendly relations across various sectors. Political consultations, as well as economic, commercial and cultural exchanges, have deepened mutual understanding and strengthened cooperation.
The two countries reaffirmed their commitment to deepening and expanding their bilateral relations, expressing their determination to strengthen cooperation based on shared interests and to continue working together for the lasting benefit of their peoples.
The ceremony was attended by a number of officials from both Oman and Mexico.
