Oman affirms continued cooperation with International Atomic Energy Agency
The Sultanate of Oman affirmed its continued cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to achieve its objectives and strengthen its pivotal role in using nuclear technology for peace and development. This took place during the 69th session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna.
In Oman’s statement, Yousuf Ahmed Hamed Aljabri, Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the International Atomic Energy Authority, and Oman's Ambassador to the Republic of Austria, expressed the Sultanate’s appreciation for the efforts made by the Agency in carrying out its work and fulfilling its mandated responsibilities.
Ambassador Aljabri noted that Oman attaches great importance to benefiting from technical cooperation programmes, and building national capacities in areas such as agriculture, food safety, health, and radiation safety.
He also emphasised the urgent and pressing need to rid the Middle East of weapons by establishing a zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction in the region.
