First political consultations between Oman and Ethiopia
The first session of political consultations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia took place in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa. This followed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries on political consultations.
Oman's delegation was chaired by Sheikh Khalifa Alharthy, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Political Affairs, while Ethiopia's delegation was chaired by Ambassador Hadera Abera, State Minister for Political and Economic Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

The session discussed bilateral relations, especially in the fields of enhancing trade, regulating labour, increasing maritime and air transport links, and discovering investment opportunities available to both sides in the agriculture and financial services sectors. They also addressed a number of regional and international issues and considered efforts to solve them by peaceful means.

Sheikh Khalifa Alharthy also met with Gedion Timothewos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. They discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries and exchanged views on issues of common interest. The consultation session was attended by Dr Afkar Alfarsi, Head of Mission and Oman’s Observer to the African Union; Dr Mohammed bin Ali Albalushi, Head of the Africa Department at the Foreign Ministry, and a number of officials from both countries.
