
EU announces launch of new system to register travellers’ entry and exit
The Foreign Ministry would like to inform travellers to Europe that the European Commission has announced the implementation of a new system for recording the entry and exit of non European Union travellers to EU countries, called the European Entry-Exit System (EES),.
Starting from October 12, 2025, the system will be gradually implemented at the external borders of 29 European countries over a period of six months, with full implementation to be completed by April 10, 2026.
The introduction of the EES does not remove the requirement for a Schengen visa. For more information on obtaining a Schengen visa please click here
Data to be recorded:
Upon entering or exiting European Union countries, the following data will be recorded:
- Passport data: name, date of birth, passport number, expiry date.
- Biometric data: facial image and fingerprints (for those over 12 years old).
- Travel information: date of entry and exit from the Schengen area.
Practical implementation:
Fingerprints and data will be taken upon the traveler's first entry into a Schengen country.
Upon subsequent entry, automatic verification will be carried out using the biometric matching system
This system aims to facilitate and expedite transit procedures.

Travellers must adhere to the permitted visit period in the Schengen area (90 days within every 180 days .
The system is implemented in accordance with modern European standards to secure borders and facilitate the movement of travellers.
