Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu presided over the official ceremony marking the 61st Independence Day of the Republic of Maldives, held at Independence Square in the capital, Malé. Ambassador Ahmed Alrashidi, Head of the Sultanate of Oman’s Mission, attended the ceremony alongside other Ambassadors to the Maldives..

The Ambassador wished the new Honorary Consul success in strengthening relations and in carrying out his duties.

They exchanged views on regional and international developments.

Royal Decree No. 19/2025 ratifies an agreement between the Government of the Sultanate of Oman and the Government of the Republic of Maldives on mutual visa waiver for holders of diplomatic, special, service and official passports, signed in Muscat on December 11, 2024. Article 1 ratifies the aforesaid agreement as per the version attached to this decree. Article 2 says

Both countries expressed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in diplomatic, economic and tourism sectors.

The meeting discussed enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in tourism, the environment and sustainable development.

The Ambassador presented his credentials to the President of the Maldives.

Ahmed bin Ali bin Saeid Alrashidi, Oman’s Ambassador to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, presented a copy of his credentials as the non-resident Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of the Maldives. The credentials were received Mohamed Shahudy, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Chief of Protocol.

The Royal decree appoints non-resident Ambassadors to six countries.
