The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry received a delegation representing companies and institutions from Indonesia’s healthcare sector to discuss opportunities for cooperation, partnership and investment in medical tourism and medical sciences. The meeting aimed to support the development of the medical tourism industry and strengthen related industries and services.

The meeting reviewed the capabilities and expertise of the healthcare sectors in the two countries. They discussed opportunities for commercial and investment partnerships in specialised medical services, preventive medicine, genetic medicine and genomics, medical research and applications, pharmaceutical manufacturing, medical supplies and equipment, as well as wellness and recuperation centres and personal and natural care products.

The discussions also covered opportunities for cooperation and investment in developing an integrated medical tourism ecosystem linking hospitals and healthcare institutions, diagnostic and treatment centres, insurance companies, travel and tourism agencies, hotels and hospitality providers, transport and patient transfer services, and logistics. This would strengthen integration across the medical tourism industry, facilitate patient travel and enable both countries to benefit from specialised expertise and technologies within their healthcare institutions.

The meeting explored investment opportunities in the Sultanate of Oman in the pharmaceutical and medical industries, including the manufacture of medicines, medical supplies and equipment, and the development of personal and natural care products. It also discussed opportunities to benefit from Indonesian expertise and technologies, alongside cooperation in genomics, genetic medicine and advanced medical research.

The two delegations reviewed Oman’s advantages as a strategic location and gateway to regional and international markets, including the Gulf Cooperation Council, Arab and African markets. These advantages provide opportunities to establish joint ventures and investment partnerships in the healthcare, medical and pharmaceutical sectors.

The meeting highlighted the importance of maintaining communication between the private sectors in both countries and moving from the exchange of expertise towards exploring partnerships, investment opportunities and joint projects. This would support the development of the medical tourism industry, strengthen the medical and pharmaceutical sectors, promote the exchange of knowledge and technology in medical sciences and genetic medicine, and contribute to diversifying non-oil sources of national income.
