The National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking (NCCHT) launched the Aman 2 national awareness campaign in Salalah under the theme “Awareness is Everyone’s Right”.

The campaign aims to raise public awareness across the Sultanate of Oman about the risks of human trafficking, to promote a culture of prevention, while supporting and empowering victims.

The Aman 2 campaign will run for a month and include programmes, events and awareness activities targeting different sections of society.

It aims to increase awareness of the signs of human trafficking, ways to prevent it, and the channels available for reporting cases and seeking assistance and protection. The aim is to encourage greater public awareness and strengthen national efforts to combat this crime.

The launch ceremony was held under the patronage of Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, and was attended by the  Chair of the NCCHT.  Sheikh Khalifa Alharthy, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Political Affairs

Brigadier Jamal Al Quraishi, Director General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations at the Royal Oman Police and Deputy Chair of the NCCHT, delivered a speech in which he said the launch of  the Aman 2 campaign on the theme of awareness builds on the Committee’s work last year on the Aman 1 campaign on the theme of “Safety for Every Person”, which promoting the message that safety is a legitimate right for every human being.

He said the Committee wants to continue to promote that message in a new form, based on its belief that protecting this right requires awareness. People who are aware of their rights are better able to protect themselves and others from the risks of exploitation and human trafficking, he added.

Maryam bint Ali Al Shihi, Rapporteur of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking (NCCHT), also delivered a speech, saying that amid rapidly changing challenges and circumstances, people remain at the centre of attention and the focus of every effort in Oman.  Safety remains an essential need without which life cannot function properly, she added.

She said safety is not merely a feeling of reassurance, but a fundamental right for every person and requires an environment that protects dignity and rights and enables everyone to live in peace and with respect.

The launch included a showing of a  film highlighting the NCCHT’s efforts to raise awareness of the risks of human trafficking, how to prevent it and ways to protect potential victims. The film explains the Committee’s key initiatives and programmes aimed at promoting public awareness, protecting human rights and safeguarding human dignity.

The ceremony also saw the launch of the “Wall of Hope”, an electronic platform that allows people to write messages of support for victims of human trafficking. The messages are translated into several languages and sent to the protection centre, providing moral support to victims and strengthening their sense of safety and hope.

The launch ceremony, held at Millennium Salalah, was attended by members of the NCCHT, officials, along with specialists and representatives of relevant authorities and institutions.

Oman continues its efforts to combat human trafficking and reduce its risks through an integrated national system based on prevention, awareness, protection and legal enforcement. These efforts include strengthening cooperation and coordination among relevant authorities, providing care and protection to victims, and safeguarding their rights and dignity.

The Aman 2 national campaign builds on these efforts by raising public awareness of the risks of human trafficking and ways to prevent it, reinforcing the principle that protecting people is a shared responsibility and that awareness is a fundamental pillar in combating the crime.
