The Sultanate of Oman joins countries around the world in marking World Humanitarian Day, reaffirming its active role and longstanding contributions to humanitarian efforts. Oman’s approach reflects its belief that solidarity, mutual support and standing with people in times of crisis are deeply rooted values in Omani society.
This approach is reflected in Oman’s swift response to humanitarian crises and its provision of aid and relief to those in need. Omani assistance goes beyond material support, carrying a humanitarian message based on compassion, peace, cooperation and solidarity among peoples.
Badr bin Mohammed Al Zaabi, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Oman Charitable Organisation, told the Oman News Agency that World Humanitarian Day serves as a reminder that, regardless of the causes or locations of crises, people remain at the heart of humanitarian action and its ultimate purpose.
Regarding the launch of the Oman Red Crescent and its role in developing a national humanitarian system, he said it represents an important step in advancing humanitarian action by providing a specialised institutional framework.
He said that at the local level, more than 46,000 people across Oman benefited from the Organisation’s programmes during the first half of 2026.
These included food assistance, orphan sponsorship, financial aid and support for education, healthcare and housing, as well as emergency relief.
Internationally, the organisation extended its humanitarian efforts to several countries during the same period. Its assistance included emergency and medical aid, support for education, orphan sponsorship and other humanitarian programmes and projects tailored to the needs of each country.
World Humanitarian Day is observed annually on 19 August. It highlights humanitarian efforts worldwide, honours the sacrifices of humanitarian workers and underlines the importance of solidarity and international cooperation in responding to crises and disasters.
