The Sultanate of Oman participated today in the 166th regular session of the Council of the Arab League at the level of Foreign Ministers.

The meeting was held at the Arab League General Secretariat headquarters in Cairo under the chairmanship of the Republic of Tunisia.

Oman’s delegation was headed by Sheikh Khalifa Alharthy, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Political Affairs. It also included Ambassador Abdullah bin Nasser Al Rahbi, Oman’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League and officials from the Foreign Ministry.

The Council discussed a range of political, security and economic issues, foremost among them the latest developments concerning the Palestinian cause and the serious and rapidly evolving situation in the region and its repercussions for the security and stability of Arab countries and peoples.

The Ministers highlighted the importance of strengthening joint Arab action to contain current developments and prevent further escalation or the region being drawn into wider confrontations. They called for safeguarding the security, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Arab countries and limiting the political, economic and humanitarian consequences of tensions and escalation.

The Council reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause to joint Arab action and the need to continue Arab and international efforts to end the aggression against the Palestinian people, protect civilians and ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance. It also reaffirmed support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international resolutions and the two state solution.

The Council also addressed a range of Arab issues and developments. The Ministers called for respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, non-interference in their internal affairs and the settlement of disputes and conflicts through peaceful means and dialogue. They also called for strengthening security and stability in the region.

The Council discussed draft resolutions and recommendations submitted by the Council of the Arab League at the level of permanent representatives following consideration during the preparatory meetings. It adopted several resolutions relating to political, security, economic and social issues aimed at strengthening mechanisms for joint Arab action.

Oman’s participation in the session reflects its commitment to supporting joint Arab action, strengthening consultation and coordination among Arab countries and contributing to efforts to safeguard security and stability. It also reflects Oman’s commitment to resolving crises through peaceful means and dialogue in a way that serves the interests of Arab peoples and promotes regional and international security and peace.
