His late Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said is regarded as one of the most prominent Omani figures who have contributed to the modern blessed renaissance since its launch in 1970.

Sayyid Fahd (may he rest in peace) was born in Muscat on October 5, 1940. He pursued his higher education at Cairo University and graduated in 1965 with a degree in economics. He later obtained a Master’s degree in political science and economics from the Sorbonne University in France in 1970. He was fluent in several languages including Arabic, French and English.

Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said began his career during the reign of Sultan Qaboos bin Said. He held several government positions including Minister of State at the Foreign Ministry from 1971 to 1973, Minister of Information and Culture from 1973 to 1979 and Deputy Prime Minister for Legal Affairs from 1979 to 1994. He then served as Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers from 1994 until 2026.

His late Highness also held several other government positions, including Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Conferences of the Gulf Cooperation Council, under Royal Decree No. 105/82; Chairman of the Council of Sultan Qaboos University, under Royal Decree No. 9/86; Chairman of the Supreme Committee of the Royal Opera House Muscat since 2010 and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for the Five Year Development Plans.

Sayyid Fahd’s name was closely associated with representing the Sultanate of Oman at numerous international forums and Gulf and Arab summits on behalf of Sultan Qaboos, as well as during the prosperous era of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.

His late Highness played a major role in shaping the public policies of the Sultanate of Oman. He also contributed to building the modern renaissance and advancing development in the country.

He supported the strengthening of diplomatic relations between Oman and countries around the world through visits to several states including Japan, Iran, Thailand, South Korea and Singapore as well as many Arab countries. These visits helped expand relations at various levels particularly in economic fields.

The character of Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said (may he rest in peace), whose service to the Sultanate of Oman extended for nearly 56 years, was marked by high diplomacy and composure. He was known for his eloquence, sound judgement and ability to articulate the national position, drawing on his broad political and administrative experience.
