Oman to exempt Philippines citizens from tourist visa requirements from 2026
In a step that reflects Oman’s commitment to strengthening international relations and diversifying economic partnerships, a spokesperson for the Consular Department at the Foreign Ministry confirmed that the addition of the Republic of the Philippines to the list of countries exempt from short-visit visa requirements will take effect from next year. This measure raises the number of exempt countries to more than 100 worldwide, reinforcing Oman’s position as an open and attractive international destination.
According to informed diplomatic sources, the decision comes as part of the development of relations between Muscat and Manila, aiming to move beyond the traditional labour-focused dimension towards a broader partnership that includes investment, industry and high-value tourism.
The sources explained that concerns regarding this exemption are limited due to the strict procedures the Philippines imposes on its citizens before departure, including proof of good health, financial capability, flight and hotel bookings and other requirements that ensure compliance with regulations. Oman similarly values these procedures and takes them into account for visitors, residents and incoming workers of all nationalities.
The role of the Oman Visa and Medical Examination Centre in Manila is also notable. The centre, inaugurated last July in the presence of Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi and the Minister of Labour, serves as an integrated facility for streamlining and regulating work visa procedures in line with approved employment contracts under Omani labour law. It offers biometric registration, medical examinations, document and contract authentication, as well as awareness and support services for workers and employers.
The sources added that the exemption reflects mutual confidence between the two countries, noting Oman’s successful efforts to secure the release of Filipino nationals detained in Yemen, which left a positive impression among the Filipino public. The Cebu Investment Forum organised by Oman earlier this year also enhanced cooperation prospects, and its second edition is expected to be held in Muscat next February to boost commercial, economic and tourism exchanges.
This decision helps expand the base of economic partnerships with friendly countries and opens new pathways for sustainable cooperation.
Diplomatic experts view this step as part of Oman’s strategic vision to strengthen its international presence, supporting mutual economic and commercial benefits and contributing to increased tourism activity.
