Omani Iranian Joint Statement

Joint Omani-Iranian Statement on the occasion of the official visit of His Excellency Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to the Sultanate of Oman, May 27-28, 2025:

“In response to a fraternal invitation from His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, His Excellency Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, paid an official visit to the Sultanate of Oman on Tuesday May 27 and Wednesday May 28, 2025.

“The visit stems from the deep-rooted historical ties between the Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and between their two friendly peoples. It aims to strengthen close bilateral relations and affirm the mutual appreciation and respect between the leaderships and peoples of the two countries, which are rooted in the principles of religion, brotherhood, and good neighbourliness.

“An official meeting was held between His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik  and His Excellency Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. During the meeting, they reviewed prospects for joint cooperation and bilateral relations, particularly those related to joint economic and investment cooperation in various fields, and coordination on matters that serve the interests of the two friendly countries and benefit their peoples.

“They expressed their satisfaction with the level of existing cooperation and emphasised the need to continue strengthening it and opening new areas of economic partnership. They also expressed their appreciation for the consensus achieved at the level of the joint committees, and directed that these committees convene regularly to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields.

“His Majesty the Sultan and his brother, His Excellency the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, also emphasised the positive and fruitful role played by the private sector in both countries. They expressed the hope that these activities will contribute to increasing investment and trade exchanges between the two countries. They welcomed the signing of several agreements to frame cooperation in the areas of mutual encouragement and protection of investments, legal and judicial cooperation, a trade preferences agreement, a framework agreement for joint cooperation, and several memoranda of understanding in other areas.

“Oman and Iran also welcomed the ongoing cooperation between Oman Post and the Iranian National Post, which resulted in the issue of a joint postage stamp celebrating the depth of bilateral relations and highlighting the efforts of both sides to promote cultural diplomacy, thus supporting mutual understanding and contributing to strengthening ties between the two friendly peoples.

“His Majesty and His Excellency discussed a number of regional and international issues of common interest, including the Gaza Strip crisis.

“In this context, they emphasised the necessity of a complete and permanent ceasefire, the lifting of the injustice against the population, and an end to the genocide being perpetrated against the Palestinian people by the Israeli occupation forces in Gaza and other Palestinian territories.

“Oman and Iran also called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities in providing relief aid and humanitarian supplies to the defenceless population throughout the Gaza Strip, and expressed their categorical rejection of any plans aimed at displacing and persecuting the population.

“The two leaders expressed their satisfaction with the level of political consultation and coordination between the two countries at various levels.

“His Excellency the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran expressed his country's deep appreciation for the constructive role played by the Sultanate of Oman in the ongoing indirect talks between Iran and the United States of America on the nuclear issue. For his part, His Majesty the Sultan expressed his hope that these talks would result in the desired consensus and the conclusion of an agreement between the two sides that would meet the common goals of strengthening regional and international security and peace, and bring further prosperity and progress to the countries of the region.

“Oman and Iran emphasised the importance of redoubling efforts and endeavours to ensure continued security and stability in the region and the world, and of coordinating and consulting between them in various regional and international forums on issues that serve security and stability in the region and the world.

“His Excellency the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran expressed his thanks and appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said  and to the government and people of the Sultanate of Oman for the warm welcome and generous hospitality. His Excellency also extended a fraternal invitation to His Majesty the Sultan to visit the Islamic Republic of Iran, which was warmly welcomed by His Majesty .

“This joint statement was issued in Muscat on May 28, 2025.”
