
Born in Zanzibar in 1965, H.E. Fatma Mohamed Rajab is the Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary.
She is a career Diplomat with vast knowledge in International Relations.
Before appointed as Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania in the Sultanate of Oman in 2023, she was holding a position of Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Dodoma Tanzania. She has served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at different capacities since she joined the Ministry in 1991.
She holds diploma in languages from the Institute of Kiswahili & foreign languages, Zanzibar, BA in International Relations and Public Administration from the – University of Dar es Salaam, Post Graduate Diploma in International Relations and Diplomacy from the Center for Foreign Relations Dar es Salaam.
She also attended various short courses Seminars and workshops including:
1. 13th Specialized Course in Diplomatic Services in Islamabad, Pakistan (1993-1994).
2. Japanese language & culture at the institute of Japanese institute of foreign affairs, Japan (1996-1997).
3. Protocol officer – Dept. of Foreign Affairs Zanzibar (1991-1993).
Her career path stared at the Department of Foreign Affairs in Zanzibar Office as a Desk officer for Europe and America from 1993-1999, then posted to Tanzania Embassy in Beijing, China from 1999 to 2006 as a Commercial & Consular Affairs Officer. In 2005 she was promoted to Head of Chancery at the Embassy until 2006 when she returned back to headquarters and appointed as Head of Asia and Pacific Department. In 2010 she was promoted to Assistant Director at the Department of Africa.
In 2013 she was posted to Nigeria where she was an Acting High Commissioner at Tanzania High Commission from 2013 Jan- 2014 Jan. On Feb 2017 she was appointed as First Ambassador Extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the United Republic of Tanzania to the State of Qatar in Doha.
In April 2021 she was appointed as Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania and in 10th September 2023- was appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Republic of Tanzania to the Sultanate of Oman to date.
H.E. Fatma Mohamed Rajab has done a number of research including:
- Prospects & problems of negotiated settlement in south Africa- dissertation at the university of Dar es salaam- 1991.
- Women in Tanzania’s diplomatic service- dissertation at center for foreign relations- 1992.
- The current situation in south Africa and prospects of establishing black majority democratic regime in south Africa- Dissertation at Foreign Service academy- Islamabad- Pakistan- 1993.
At her spare time she likes listening music, reading and watching movies.
She is single with four children.
