The Baghdad Declaration, issued at the 34th session of the Council of the Arab League, praised the constructive and active role of the Sultanate of Oman in supporting regional and international efforts to promote security and stability in the region, and in upholding dialogue and diplomacy as a means of addressing crises and conflicts.

The summit affirmed the importance of Oman's “wise and balanced” role in addressing key regional issues. These include supporting the political settlement process in the Republic of Yemen; contributing positively to bridging views on the Iranian nuclear file; and Oman's commitment to ensuring the security and safety of maritime navigation in the Red Sea, in accordance with international law and in a manner that enhances regional stability.

Oman was represented at the summit by a high-level delegation led by His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, on behalf of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.

The official delegation also included Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi; Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Said Al Saidi, Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs; Dr Said bin Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Saqri, Minister of Economy; and Abdullah bin Nasser bin Musalam Al Rahbi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Egypt and Oman's Representative to League of Arab States.

In a statement by a spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, the Sultanate expressed its appreciation for the Baghdad Declaration’s recognition of its efforts in supporting regional peace and stability. The spokesperson added that Oman’s approach stems from its firm belief in the principles of good neighbourliness and prioritising dialogue and diplomacy in resolving all issues and disputes.

The spokesperson affirmed that Oman will continue to contribute to all efforts that promote security and stability in the region and encourage understanding and cooperation among all parties, in a way that serves mutual interests and safeguards regional and international peace.
