Oman’s telecom sector powers ahead with surge in connections
The latest statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information show a significant growth in telecommunications in the Sultanate of Oman, driven by the expansion of digital services and the growing reliance on smart solutions.
The data show that active postpaid mobile subscriptions rose by 5.6% to reach 1,239,509 subscriptions by the end of May 2025, compared to the same period in 2024. Active prepaid mobile subscriptions grew by 3.1%, reaching 5,335,847 subscriptions. Subscriptions to Internet of Things (IoT) services recorded exceptional growth of 118.7%, reaching 1,554,999 subscriptions by the end of May 2025.
According to the statistics, the total number of mobile service subscriptions in Oman reached 8,130,355 by the end of May 2025, marking a 15.2% increase compared to May 2024. Active subscriptions to mobile broadband internet totalled 5,414,124 by the end of May 2025.
Active fixed broadband internet subscriptions rose by 2.6%, reaching 588,015 subscriptions by the end of May 2025, compared to the same period in 2024.
Fibre-optic services saw an 11.4% increase, with subscriptions reaching 339,279. Fixed 5G subscriptions also grew by 2.1%, reaching 215,850 by the end of May 2025. In contrast, fixed 4G subscriptions dropped by 38.1% to 19,654.
Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) subscriptions declined by 50.8%, totalling 11,806 subscriptions. Satellite subscriptions also fell by 2.1%, reaching 653.
Other subscriptions—which include internet via power lines, Ethernet, and leased internet lines—fell by 12%, recording 773 subscriptions by the end of May 2025 compared to the same period last year.
