Netherlands: Oman Sail signs agreement with Sail Amsterdam Foundation
Oman Sail has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Netherlands-based Sail Amsterdam Foundation to organise SAIL Muscat 2027, an international maritime festival that will bring vessels from around the world, and showcase Oman’s maritime heritage, while boosting tourism, cultural exchanges and trade.
The MoU, signed by Dr Khamis Aljabri, CEO of Oman Sail, and Mitra van Ralton, CEO of the Sail Amsterdam Foundation, also aims to enhance cooperation in sailing more generally.
The Sultanate of Oman’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Sheikh Abdullah Alharthy, who attended the signing, said that Oman and the Netherlands share centuries-old diplomatic relations built on trade and mutual understanding. He noted that this agreement strengthens those ties in the modern era and creates opportunities for closer cooperation through sport, sailing and the maritime sector.
Dr Khamis Aljabri said that by bringing SAIL Muscat 2027 to Oman, the partnership with Sail Amsterdam aims to establish a new tradition in the region. He added that this global event will present Oman’s maritime heritage to the world.
Mitra van Ralton said Oman’s rich seafaring legacy makes Muscat the ideal host city for the SAIL event. She expressed her admiration for Oman Sail’s achievements in developing the sport over the past 17 years and staging major international sailing events.
