
Royal Decree reflects Oman's commitment to justice and human dignity
The Omani Human Rights Commission stated that the issue of Royal Decree No. 89/2025, approving Oman’s accession to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, reflects the noble commitment of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to upholding the principles of justice and human dignity, and reaffirms Oman’s engagement as an active member of the international community within the global human rights framework.
This accession strengthens the legal and institutional safeguards ensuring that all individuals enjoy their civil and political rights in line with international standards. It also enhances confidence in the national human rights framework and its ability to align national laws and policies with the obligations set forth in the Covenant.
The Commission reaffirmed Oman’s continued commitment to advancing its international standing in the field of human rights, and to maintaining constructive engagement with relevant United Nations mechanisms, in support of developing national legislation and practices consistent with the highest international standards.
