Oman and Rwanda sign four agreements and cooperation programmes

The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Rwanda signed four agreements and cooperation programmes aimed at strengthening bilateral partnership and expanding areas of joint cooperation. These agreements cover logistics, dry ports, supply chains, data centres, cloud computing, infrastructure, artificial intelligence projects and services, cloud services and enhancing air connectivity between the two countries.

The first agreement includes a cooperation programme in logistics services and the development and operation of dry ports, as well as services related to supply chains. This will contribute to supporting logistics integration, exchanging expertise and building capacities in this vital sector.

The second agreement covers strengthening cooperation in data centres, cloud computing, infrastructure and artificial intelligence projects and services. It aims to enhance partnership between the two countries and cooperation in capacity building, skills development and the exchange of expertise and knowledge, as well as support for the development of relevant policies and legislation.

The third agreement relates to enhancing air links between the two countries through the launch of direct Oman Air flights between Muscat and Kigali. This strategic step will facilitate travel, support trade and tourism and strengthen connectivity between Oman and the African continent.

The service is scheduled to begin with two flights a week starting in June 2026, subject to obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals.

The fourth agreement includes a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Rwanda Development Board and Oman Airports for airport management. It aims to enhance cooperation in airport development and management, exchange expertise and explore opportunities for joint investment in the aviation sector and related infrastructure.

Engineer Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, explained that these multiple agreements signed with Rwanda in the fields of transport, communications and information technology align with the strategic objectives to expand international partnerships. This applies to both the transport and logistics sector and the communications and information technology sector, with a particular focus on expansion towards East Africa.

The Minister affirmed the importance of cooperation with Rwanda. He said these agreements will strengthen cooperation in land transport and dry ports, enhance investment and the exchange of expertise and support ground handling services at airports. He noted that the agreement signed to operate direct Oman Air flights Rwanda will open new horizons and contribute to strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

He added that these agreements create significant opportunities for cooperation in exchanging expertise  and knowledge in the fields of digital government and data centres.

These agreements reflect the strength of bilateral relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Rwanda and the commitment of both countries to expand economic and technological cooperation.

They contribute to sustainable development, support regional integration and strengthen partnership between the Middle East and Africa in priority sectors.
