New York: Oman reaffirms recognition of vital role of UNRWA
At a meeting of the UN Special Political and Decolonisation Committee, Oman reaffirmed its recognition of the vital humanitarian role played by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), amid the difficult circumstances facing the Palestinian people, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
Oman said that discussing this agenda item represents an essential step towards renewing UNRWA’s mandate in accordance with the resolutions of the UN General Assembly and strengthening the international community’s political and financial commitment to ensuring the sustainability of the Agency’s services to more than 5.9 million Palestinian refugees.
Oman renewed its full support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, calling for sustainable and multi-year funding that enables the Agency to effectively carry out its UN mandate. Omann added that supporting UNRWA is to support the principles of the United Nations and the rights of Palestinian refugees until a just and comprehensive solution is achieved.
