
Minister receives Director General of International Labour Organisation
Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi received Gilbert Houngbo, Director-General of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), at the Foreign Ministry in Muscat.
The meeting reaffirmed the cooperative relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the ILO and discussed the continuation of joint work programmes and constructive consultations.

Sayyid Badr expressed the Government’s appreciation for the pivotal role of the ILO in helping member states develop their labour systems in line with best practices and international standards. He noted Oman’s interest in maintaining positive and beneficial relations with the organisation and praised the Director General’s contribution to advancing relevant frameworks and concepts, and his commitment to promoting social justice and respect for cultures.
The Director General commended the progress and achievements of Oman in labour policy, labour-market development and relations between production partners. He affirmed the ILO’s commitment to continuing constructive cooperation and positive partnership with Oman across areas of mutual interest, especially skills development, capacity-building and support for training and employment programmes in line with national development priorities and the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
The meeting also discussed prospects for cooperation and ways to make greater use of the ILO and its specialised programmes aimed at further developing labour legislation, enhancing labour market efficiency and strengthening institutional capacities.
The meeting was attended by Khalid Alghamari, Undersecretary for Labour Affairs at the Ministry of Labour; Ruba Jaradat, ILO Regional Director for Arab States, and a number of officials.
