Tokyo University presents prestigious Shokumon Award to Omani Government
The University of Tokyo in Japan has presented the prestigious Shokumon Award to the Government of the Sultanate of Oman in recognition of Oman’s outstanding contributions to advancing scientific research and promoting academic and cultural exchange in the field of Middle Eastern studies.
The award was received on behalf of the Government of Oman by Dr Mohammed Said Albusaidi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Japan.
The award reflects the pivotal role of the Sultan Qaboos Chair for Middle Eastern Studies, established at the University in 2011.
The Shokumon Award is the highest honour granted by the University of Tokyo to individuals and institutions that have made significant and lasting contributions to the University’s progress and academic mission. Oman’s receipt of this award marks a historic milestone, as it is the first foreign government ever to be honoured with it.
