His Majesty and President of Belarus attend signing of agreements

His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and President Alexander Lukashenko of the Republic of Belarus graced the signing of two agreements, four memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and one memorandum of cooperation at the Independence Palace in Minsk. The signing ceremony was held as part of His Majesty the Sultan's state visit to the Republic of Belarus.

The first agreement was a draft agreement for the mutual waiving of visas for holders of ordinary passports between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Belarus, while the second agreement was on cooperation on international road transport between the two countries.

The MoUs signed were in the judicial field (between the Supreme Judiciary Council and the Supreme Court of Belarus); in the field of exchanging scientific and medical expertise and research (between the Ministry of Health represented by the University Medical City and Aleksandrov Republican Scientific and Practical Centre of Oncology and Medical Radiology); and in the fields of agriculture, livestock and fisheries (between the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus).

A draft roadmap for developing cooperation between Oman and the Republic of Belarus was also signed.

The two countries also signed a memorandum of cooperation for a timber project, an international investment project that focuses on establishing and operating a facility for producing paper pulp in Belarus. The project embodies the strategic objective of the Sultanate of Oman to diversify its global investment portfolio through Oman Investment Authority. It is expected to lay the foundations for large-scale, long-term investment cooperation between Oman and Belarus and will contribute to the economic development of both countries.

The agreements and MoUs were signed on behalf of the Omani government by Sayyid Badr  Albusaidi, Foreign Minister and Qais  Alyousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion.

They were signed on behalf of the Belarusian government by Maxim Ryzhenkov, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Valentin Sukalo, Chairman of the Supreme Court; Alexei Alexeevich Lyakhnovich, Minister of Transport and Communications; Alexsander Khadjaeu, Minister of Health and Yuri Gorlov, Minister of Agriculture and Food.

Before the signing ceremony, the two leaders exchanged commemorative gifts.
