Oman and India sign agreements

The Sultanate of Oman and the friendly Republic of India signed an executive programme, a document and four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in Muscat. The signing took place within the framework of the official visit of India's Prime Minister to Oman.

The signing included the Joint Maritime Vision document and an executive programme for cooperation in millet cultivation and innovation in food and agricultural industries. It also included four memoranda of understanding for cooperation in maritime heritage and museums, scientific research and innovation and skills development, agriculture and related sectors and between the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Confederation of Indian Industry.

Signing on behalf of the Government of Oman were Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, Issa Saleh Abdullah Saleh Alshibani, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to India and Zakariya bin Abdullah Al Saadi, Chief Executive Officer of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Signing on behalf of the Government of India were Dr S Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs, Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri G.V Srinivas, Ambassador of the Republic of India to the Sultanate of Oman and Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General of the Confederation of Indian Industry.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, explained that the signing of the MoU with the Confederation of Indian Industry aims to activate joint cooperation across various economic sectors through several tools to be implemented in the next phase. These include the exchange of joint trade delegations between the two countries, focusing on selected economic sectors suitable for investment, working to attract investors from the Republic of India to the Sultanate of Oman and organising events and exhibitions to promote the products and services of Omani companies in the Indian market.

The Director General of the Confederation of Indian Industry, stated that the MoU signed with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry will contribute to expanding partnerships between the two friendly countries. He added that there are many promising opportunities between the two countries in various fields, such as education, technology, industry, infrastructure, services and tourism.
