11 Foreign Ministers affirm support for Syria’s security and unity
Over two days, Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi held intensive consultations with the Foreign Ministers of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Republic of Türkiye, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Iraq, the State of Qatar, the State of Kuwait, the Republic of Lebanon, and the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The discussions focused on developments in Syria and on forming a unified position and making joint efforts to support the Syrian Government in rebuilding the country based on principles that ensure its security, stability, unity, sovereignty and the rights of all its citizens.
In a joint statement, the Ministers:
- Affirm their support for Syria’s security, unity, stability and sovereignty, and their rejection of all foreign interference in its internal affairs.
- Welcome the agreement reached to end the crisis in Suwayda Governorate, and call for its implementation as a means of safeguarding both Syria’s unity and its citizens, preserving Syrian lives, and ensuring the protection of civilians and the sovereignty of the state and the rule of law.
- Welcome the commitment expressed by Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shara to hold accountable those responsible for violations against Syrian citizens in Suwayda.
- Voice their support for all efforts to restore security and uphold the rule of law in Suwayda and across all Syrian territory, rejecting violence, sectarianism, incitement, and hate speech.
- Condemn repeated Israeli attacks on the Syrian Arab Republic, rejecting them as flagrant violations of international law and blatant assaults on Syria’s sovereignty. The Ministers say that these attacks undermine the country's security, stability, unity, and territorial integrity, and threaten the Syrian government’s efforts to rebuild the country in line with the aspirations of its people.
- Affirm that Syria’s security and stability are essential to regional security and stability and represent a shared priority.
- Call on the international community to support the Syrian government in the reconstruction process, calling on the UN Security Council to fulfil its legal and moral responsibilities to ensure the full withdrawal of Israel from occupied Syrian territories, halt all Israeli aggression against Syria, cease interference in its affairs, and implement Resolution 2766 and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
