Egypt: Oman at Cairo International Book Fair

The Sultanate of Oman is taking part in the 57th Cairo International Book Fair, which has opened in the Egyptian capital and runs until February 3.

Egypt’s Prime Minister, Dr Mostafa Madbouly inaugurated the event in the presence of various officials.

Oman’s Ambassador to Egypt and its Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Ambassador Abdullah Alrahbi, attended the opening of the Fair.

Dr Ahmed Fouad Hano, Egypt’s Minister of Culture, visited Oman’s pavilion at the fair and praised Oman’s participation. He noted that Oman was the Guest of Honour at the last year's fair, describing it as a major pillar of cultural and artistic work in the region and the Arab world. He added that Oman makes a wide range of contributions in the fields of culture, science and knowledge.

Through its participation, Oman aims to highlight its intellectual output across all fields and strengthen relations with Egypt, particularly in cultural cooperation.

The Sultanate of Oman’s pavilion features publications covering a wide range of fields of knowledge. It aims to introduce Omani books and showcase Oman’s intellectual, literary and historical heritage. The pavilion also helps ensure access to Omani publications for researchers, thinkers and all segments of society. It includes a curated selection of modern titles and recent releases covering cultural, literary, artistic, jurisprudential, media and tourism-related themes.

The world-renowned writer the late Naguib Mahfouz has been selected as the key figure for the 57th Fair, in recognition of his enduring literary value and his role in enriching the Arabic novel. Renowned artist Mohieddin El Labbad has been chosen as the figurehead for the Children’s Book Fair, in tribute to his influential creative career that has shaped generations of children.

Romania is this year’s Guest of Honour at the Fair, which is being held under the slogan: “Whoever stops reading for an hour falls behind by centuries,” reflecting the status of reading as a fundamental pillar of progress and awareness-building.
