Joint Statement on the Occasion of the Official Visit of the President of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic to the Sultanate of Oman January 14, 2026

In the context of the historic relations and strong bonds between the Sultanate of Oman and the Italian Republic, and at the gracious invitation of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Giorgia Meloni, President of Italy's Council of Ministers paid an official visit to the Sultanate of Oman on Wednesday January 14, 2026.

During the visit, the two leaders held official talks addressing ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand areas of cooperation in a manner that serves their mutual interests, reaffirming their commitment to further develop the strategic partnership between Oman and Italy.

Oman and Italy affirmed their keenness to enhance cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, and industry, to encourage public–private sector partnerships, and to activate the role of joint committees to increase bilateral trade. They also agreed to work on an action plan (2026-30) as a framework to follow up on the implementation of signed memoranda of understanding and agreements, and to promote bilateral cooperation across various fields.

His Majesty and the Italian Prime Minister commended the existing bilateral cooperation in culture, heritage, university and scientific research, underscoring the importance of further developing exchanges between Oman and Italy in these sectors.

The two leaders exchanged views on regional and international issues of common interest, reaffirming their commitment to supporting efforts aimed at achieving security and stability and to resolving conflicts through peaceful means in accordance with the principles of international law.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni praised the role of the Sultanate of Oman in supporting dialogue and regional peace, while His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik expressed his appreciation for the Italy's role in promoting dialogue, peaceful solutions, and constructive engagement.

At the conclusion of the visit, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her appreciation for the warm hospitality and gracious  reception.
