By royal directive of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi has delivered the Sultanate of Oman’s address marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.

In the address the Minister conveys His Majesty’s greetings to António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, along with his sincere wishes for success in his international work.

The Minister says that the Sultanate joins the international community in commemorating this historic occasion, driven by a firm belief in the United Nations as a vehicle for promoting the welfare of all humanity, a cornerstone of relations between nations, a tool for conflict resolution, and a beacon guiding the world in addressing challenges and upholding the values of justice and peace.

Sayyid Badr also notes that this anniversary comes at a time when the world is witnessing complex crises and turmoil, expressing Oman’s hope that the international community can overcome them with renewed resolve and closer cooperation to build a more secure and stable future.

He also underlines the urgent need to modernise the UN system and adapt its mechanisms to the evolving realities of the modern world. He stresses the importance of ensuring that the organisation reflects a genuine balance between the voices of the Global North and South in a way that supports international justice and equitable partnership.
